HOW WE BEGAN

In the midst of their decade long process to produce the documentary film, HER SONG, Co-founders Mae Thornton Mehra and Atin Mehra saw the need for an organization that could better aid films raising critical issues in areas where larger networks could support community led, grassroots sustainable change and social justice. Thriving Roots Initiative was founded in 2019.

At Thriving Roots Initiative we truly believe in the power of storytelling to heal and catalyze change. Please join us on our mission!

What We Do

Thriving Roots Initiative is a non-profit media company working in collaboration with marginalized populations to produce dynamic films and compelling content that expose injustice. Through customized distribution and outreach strategies, we connect these films and media content with diverse audiences to educate and catalyze social justice and support for these underrepresented populations.

Our Vision

Thriving Roots Initiative utilizes the genres of documentary films, transmedia and community based storytelling to promote truth and reconciliation for marginalized populations. In combining various social science disciplines with the art of storytelling, Thriving Roots Initiative provides marginalized communities the space to continue to heal from and survive generations of systemic injustice.

We aim to connect marginalized communities and their stories with key partners and change agents in an effort to create long-term, community inspired, sustainable solutions for inter-generational healing and basic human rights including but not limited to healthcare, education, access to justice and livelihood opportunities.

We must think of the fact that there is nothing more dangerous than to build a society with a segment in that society which feels that it has no stake in the society.
